He might be the reigning interim Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Welterweight champion but Carlos Condit has unexpectedly landed himself in a precarious situation as fans grow restless about his lack of title defense. Although he has been tentatively penciled in the to defend his title against the UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre who is nearing full recovery after 14 months out with an injury for the right to be called the undisputed UFC Welterweight champion, there is growing discontent over the lack of action that he has been seeing recently.
Many people are asking why he isn’t fighting against the likes of Johnny Hendricks or even Martin Kampmann and waiting for St. Pierre to make his comeback. Most fans have opined that in their views, an interim championship is created for the purpose of it being defended till the actual champion makes his comeback to the ring when the then interim champion and the champion will go head to head to determine the undisputed champion.
And Carlos Condit and his stance of not defending the title against anyone other than Georges St. Pierre has not gone down well with the fans of the company, who believe if St. Pierre misses the return date yet again, they might have to wait another six months to see Condit step inside the ring again. But according to the man himself, The UFC has not been in contact with him or his representative regarding a defense of the interim title.
Speaking at an interview, Condit stated that personally, he is not particular about defending the title against anyone other than St. Pierre at this time. However, Carlos Condit did mention that if St. Pierre suffers another setback in his comeback from injury before November, only then will he entertain the prospect of another fight.
