Condit facing Diaz

One of the greatest fighters of the Welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Carlos Condit will go head to head with Nick Diaz for the ultimate prize in the division, the UFC Welterweight Championship on Saturday, the 4th of February, 2012; it has been announced by the promotion. With Georges St-Pierre, the current UFC Welterweight champion being sidelined with a knee injury for at least the next few months, the promotion has decided to introduce an interim title till the champion can return to the ring and this match will be contested between the two front runners for the title, Condit and Diaz.

According to a statement released by the President Dana White, GSP’s long term injury lay-off, which will sideline him for at least the next 10 months after surgery, it was decided in a board meeting that the Welterweight Championship, which is one of the most prestigious titles in the promotions cannot be left vacant for so long and hence, it was decided to have an interim champion and since Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz were the two front runners for the title, they will be the ones to battle it out for the gold on February 4th.

The match, scheduled to take place at UFC 143, will be one of the best matches in recent history of the promotion with both fighters high on confidence after victories in their last three bouts and there is no doubt that the two will give it their all to become the champion.

The championship match has also been touted as a grudge match between the two fighters who have a long history of rivalry between them and going by current form, no one is a clear favorite, although Carlos Condit might just hold the upper hand come 4th of February.
